Career Day 2015 was a very fun experience and I would do it all over again if I had the chance. I shadowed an organization called "H2O Trash Patrol" They are a non-profit based in Encinitas, California and they clean our waterways all over San Diego. I really liked the job because I actually got to go out and experience the things they do on an everyday basis. It started in the early morning at around 7:15 when we went to a middle school called Oakcrest Middle School. We helped a small class of 8th graders with their final day of their recycling program. They had to replace recycling bins with new bags and they also had to practice a speech that they wrote to the mayor. I also took part in the read-a-loud because the majority of the students weren't present. We then left to go to the Carlsbad Agua Hedionda Center where they had multiple animals to interact with. She was there to give a talk to a bunch of third graders on environmental awareness. I also met up with her intern which I previously knew. After she gave her talk, we met up with the other co-owner and we went down the Carlsbad Lagoon to paddle board while picking up trash. We got all our gear and paddled to the opposite beach. We then picked up all the trash on that beach and in the water. We did the same when we paddled to another area and then we went back. The time spent in total picking up trash was about 2 hours total. We picked up about 44 pounds of trash, 4 pounds being recyclable. I thought it was really interesting that they are able to supervise many people with their gear because it took a while to pack up for only 4 people. This seems like a career I would pursue because they are always moving and always are occupied whether they are at home or outside. In terms of college or a university, you don't really need a degree to do this job. It would definitely help as it did for my job shadow. I would say you still have to be highly educated in order to run this business though, because it takes a lot of time to organize events, people, etc. My dream internship for next year would have to be a job with this kind of experience because it was something I got to do a lot more than observe. I'm not exactly sure what I specifically want to do as an internship next year.
